Unity Run was conceptualised four years ago in an attempt to bring together people from all societies of Park Street to a common platform. Since then, it has been an annual event, nudging many people to adopt a more active lifestyle (evident from the numerous running groups that have come up in the last two years), and making residents of all societies intermingle which has helped bring camaraderie and melt away the differences.
Another positive impact of the run has been that residents get encouraged to donate to a cause identified by “Street to Life”, our social wing, which then ensures that the donated amount is suitably utilised.
Social Impact of Unity Run Event:
We have seen (and ourselves experienced in many cases) the impact Unity Run has had on our and our kids’ lifestyle.
Now it is time to review the social impact of Unity Run in the last 3 years.
Unity Run 2016: Cause: Marathwada Drought
As Marathwada was reeling under severe drought at that time, an amount of Rs 1,02,463 was donated towards Marathwada drought relief fund at an event held at Tata Motors.
Unity Run 2017: Cause: Infrastructure Development of Underprivileged Kids School
We identified the school where the kids of most of our society workforce were enrolled and adopted it. This was the Municipal school of Kaspate Vasti. We invested an amount of Rs 1,24,395 for creating a Centre of Excellence for them.
Unity Run 2018: Cause: Saving Our Rivers
Last year our cause was “Saving our Rivers” for which we collected about Rs. 67,000 in donation. This donation amount, along with the surplus, was not sufficient to carry out our cause. So we got a helping hand from our area Corporator, who had participated in Unity Run, along with PCMC to get our goal accomplished.
The donation collected last year will be combined with this year’s donation and contributed to this year’s cause.
Unity Run 2019: Cause: Health and Well-being of Underprivileged Girl Child
In the last two years of working with the Municipal School we adopted in 2017, we have identified a few other issues they face on a daily basis. One of the most pressing ones is a lack of proper sanitation for the girl students. Their toilet is in a deplorable condition and a potential source of serious health issues. Our cause for this year is to provide them with clean and hygienic sanitation facilities, for which we sincerely request your support to contribute generously and join us in making a difference.
Surplus, if any, will be utilized for Park Street Welfare initiatives.
