International Women’s Day: #BalanceforBetter

International women’s day (IWD) is celebrated annually on the 8th of March.  The first IWD was held in 1911. The day is not specific to any country, organization or group and belongs collectively to all groups everywhere.

So, make IWD your day and do what you can truly to make a positive difference.

What is International Women’s day?

International Women’s day is a global day. The day also marks for accelerating gender equality. Celebrating the cultural and social achievements of women.

No one organization, government, cooperation, institution, charity, NGO, women’s network or media hub is solely responsible for International women’s day.

IWD is all about celebration, unity, reflection, advocacy, and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level.

Which color signifies International women's day?

Internationally, Purple is the color that signifies women. In 1908, women’s social and political union in the UK historically the combination of purple, green and white to symbolize women’s equality.

Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolizes hope. White represents purity but is no longer used due to “purity” being a controversial topic.

How do we celebrate women’s day?

On this day we go on celebrating all the inspiring and courageous women around and within us who are shaping the world for betterment. There are still a lot of women whose voices are unheard of and who are not given the freedom to showcase their skills and potentials.

We still raise eyebrows for choosing kickboxing instead of home science. Women are still blamed for getting raped! From tattoos to surgeries, nothing is judgment proof.

A small poem dedicating to all the strong women out there.

She is Strong, but not in the ways most people think. She loves and she knows it. And yet, she loves anyway. No matter how tough things become, she never runs out of sweetness.

From the Ashes She Became

Before she became Fire, she was water.

Quenching the thirst of every dying creature.

She gave and She gave

Until she turned from the sea to dessert.

But instead of dying of the heat,

She took all of her pain

And turned it to her strength and power.

To all the women’s out there, Happiee women’s day. Not just on this women’s day, celebrate, awaken the queen inside of you and be strong and never give up.

Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.
